Nicole Ehrlich's Annual Celebration of Women In Art honored the prolific Mickalene Thomas with a signing and conversation of her latest book Muse. Thomas is a contemporary artist based in New York whose work challenges concepts of beauty, race, gender and sexuality. Working across a variety of mediums from performance to painting, photography, and collage, Thomas is a visionary artist that’s bringing women of color into the forefront of contemporary art. Her latest book Muse, presents a collection of photographs of the women and fellow photographers who continually inspire her. Thomas’ groundbreaking presence in contemporary art has paved the way for female artists through empowering imagery of black women. She gives power to the feminist perspectives and women of color. Thomas has been exhibited in major galleries and institutions around the world and is included in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Guggenheim and the Brooklyn Museum.
